Selection criteria
Calgary Learns currently gives preference to programs that demonstrate one or more of the following criteria. We edit this list each year based on our ongoing needs assessment.
- A holistic, learner-centred approach that incorporates adult learning principles
- Collaboration with other service providers or representatives of the targeted population
- A design that allows for the participation of the working poor
- The mobilization of volunteers to support barriered learners

- An attendance to learner accessibility barriers
- The enhancement of learner self-esteem and self-advocacy skills
- Pathways for transition to and from related programs or next steps
- Attention to diversity: the participation and/or integration of marginalized groups

General Terms
In accepting Calgary Learns funding, the receiving organization must:
- Be a Calgary Learns member in good standing.
- Operate the program substantially as described in the proposal unless advance approval is given by Calgary Learns.
- Only use the funds for expenses incurred within the calendar year and return unexpended funds to Calgary Learns.
- Submit all requested reports within the prescribed deadlines and respond to all requests for additional information in a timely manner.
- Maintain records pertaining to program promotion, instructor qualifications, instructional materials and lesson plans, registration, attendance, evaluation and financial tracking.
- In the event of a Calgary Learns audit, provide the auditors access to all program records described above and allow the auditors to observe a class, conduct learner interviews and receive a tour of the learning venue.
- Give appropriate public acknowledgement of the support from Calgary Learns and Alberta Advanced Education.
- Submit a copy of any materials produced as a result of Calgary Learns funding and be aware that Calgary Learns may make these materials available to its membership or the public.
Calgary Learns cannot allocate more than 15 per cent of its annual funding budget to any one agency.
